Antigone was a great example of moral courage. In this story the younger sister Antigone wanted to stand up for something she believed was right, even though everyone was against her. In this tragedy, king Creon made a decree that said one of Ismene and Antigone's brothers could not be giving the honor of burial because he was a traitor against his people, while Eteocles had a proper burial for his death since he stayed loyal to the kingdom. Antigone had different ideas, she thought that the laws of the gods was more important than t what Creon had just made., she said: "I have longer to please the dead than the living here", she wanted to respect the higher law. In her eyes this was the correct thing to do. She knew exactly what consequences would follow and it would seem that she deliberately disobeyed.. If you think about it in another point of view, she was just standing up for her belief. Having two brothers of the same blood, dying the same way in battle because of one another, Antigone believed they should have been treated the same in the end. She felt that she took her consequence of death for defying Creon's law would be seen in the eyes of the gods' as a good deed to be faithful to their rules for the afterlife. Antigone had a lot of courage to do what she did. She was alone in her acts, yet fulfilled her duty. This is moral courage, because instead of just feeling that something around her was unjust, she actually took action. she accepted the consequences with a good heart because her "rebellious" act against the government was with good intentions.
